Centre for Aboriginal Human Resource Development Inc: Aboriginal Learning Garden Program

The Aboriginal Learning Garden used aboriginal heritage seeds in re-purposed shipping pallets to create vertical growing spaces for the learning garden. Vertical Gardening is the most efficient use of space, uses less water resources, accessible to individuals with disabilities and is ideal for teaching purposes. Children in the daycare participated in the harvest of vegetables from Aboriginal Learning Garden Program. The items harvested were used in preparation of healthy snacks in the daycare. The vertical gardening using repurposed pallets was used to teach students how to garden in an urban setting in a small space. Many of the sacred plants grown in the garden were transferred into the indoor Learning Garden extending the cycle of the Aboriginal Learning Garden Program.
