A community that plants together, grows together

Imagine you love to garden but have no yard. Or you have garden space but don’t know where to begin. These two groups are brought together in the Backyard Gardens program, run by Saskatoon’s CHEP Good Food Inc. CHEP works with communities to help improve access to good food and promote food security.

Funding from TD FEF will help CHEP expand two of its most popular programs – Backyard Gardens and Urban Agriculture. Backyard Gardens pairs homeowners who have extra yard space with gardeners keen to dig in, while the urban agriculture program provides support for aboriginal youth interested in learning the gardening and business skills necessary to become urban agriculture entrepreneurs.

Both of these projects will boost the number of gardens in Saskatoon, strengthen communities, promote organic production skills and increase pollinator species. (To learn more about the importance of plant pollinators, see our feature article.)

By supporting programs like these in your community, you can help green where you live. Simply donate to TD FEF – even a small monthly contribution can make a big difference.

Every dollar you donate goes to work greening your community. Make a difference today.
